170205 - Nugget Point Lighthouse
Today Karen and I went for a drive to Kaka Point, We enjoyed some lunch at the Point Restaurant and Bar.
We then went along the road a bit to Nugget Point and walked the track to the lighthouse.
It was a very hot day (30 degrees) but it was most enjoyable.
This is the last 100 mtrs to the Point.
Nugget Point is one of the most iconic landforms on the Otago coast. Located at the northern end of the Catlins coast, along the road from Kaka Point, this steep headland has a lighthouse at its tip, surrounded by rocky islets (The Nuggets). The point is home to many seabirds, including penguins, gannets and royal spoonbills, and a large breeding colony of fur seals. Roaring Bay, on the south coast of the tip of Nugget Point, is home to a small colony of yellow-eyed penguins.Lake Dunstan, Cromwell, New Zealand
Cromwell is a town in Central Otago in the Otago region of New Zealand.
It is situated between State Highway 6 (linking to Wanaka, 50 km north, and Queenstown, 60 km west) and State Highway 8 leading to the Lindis Pass, 75 km northeast, and Alexandra, 33 km south. The road to Alexandra winds through the Cromwell Gorge. A point near Cromwell lies 119 kilometres from the sea, the farthest from the sea anywhere in New Zealand.[2] A prominent feature surrounding much of the town is the man-made Lake Dunstan. Cromwell also has the newly constructed Highlands Motorsport Park. Nearby settlements are at Bannockburn, Lowburn, Tarras, and Ripponvale. From Main Gallery

Merry Christmas every one !!161016 - Stu's News take one ! Here we go...So, Here we are at Greymouth, NO thats not me.. thats just some randoms that happened to just pass by as the Tranz Alpine train arrives in from Christchurch. We had stayed overnight in Greymouth and are traveling back on this train later today. If you know who these randoms are, can you ask them to get out of my shot !
161016 - Going through one of the 16 tunnels on the Kiwirail TransApine Scenic Journey last weekend. This is on the open viewing carriage and was quite thrilling going through the tunnels at speed. The Otira Tunnel is 20mins long and a steep grade to Arthurs Pass. They stop and hook on an extra engine or two just in case the train breaks down in the tunnel (as a safety precaution) .As the train enters the tunnel a door closes behind it and some fans start up to assist the train to push out any gases and fumes out. The viewing carriage and Cafe/Buffet cars are closed during this time also.... it was fun !
